In today's Wall Street Journal an article discusses the impact of the subprime lending pullback. Here are some key points:
The Maui Film Festival will run this year from June 13-17. This is one of the real cultural treats on the island. Old movies on the beach, first run movies on a golf course, specialty movies on rooftops and of course hours and hours at the wonderful Castle Theater at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center. Every year we have the same complaint…that we can't see them all!
The Federal Reserve did not change either interest rates or its guidance today. The Federal Funds rate remains 5.25%.

Two Maui Meadows homes have gone into escrow recently. 539 Pawali, a very large, heavily remodeled home with a cottage and amazing ocean views had been listed for just under $2 million. 3150 Hoomua, a 2200 square foot home with a modest ocean view had been listed for $1.19 million. Currently twenty-six properties are for sale in Maui Meadows.

If you have driven the Piilani Highway to its southern end and turned onto Wailea Ike headed towards the Shops at Wailea, you have probably seen the new sign up announcing Wailea Gateway. This is going to be approximately 32,000 square feet of retail space in two buildings. Here is a preliminary sightplan we were able to find on the Internet. Construction should begin this summer.
