FIRST QUARTER TOURISM RESULTS

May 4th, 2007

First quarter Hawaii tourism results have been released:

The March figures show that statewide hotel occupancy fell by 4.6 percentage points to 78.1 percent, according to a report just released by Hospitality Advisors LLC…The report shows first-quarter occupancy declined by 6.2 percentage points, but the March average daily room rates set a new record at $201.39 for the month. Still, the decline in demand for rooms prompted the first-quarter overall room revenues to fall for the first time since 2002.

Hardly glowing results, but tourism across the state is capacity constrained at this point. Hawaii remains third in the nation in average occupancy and second in the nation in average room rates.
